Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) today unveiled the facelifted Mercedes-AMG GT in the country, the car making its local debut in two variant forms, the AMG GT R and the GT C coupe, the latter replacing the pre-facelift that was only introduced last year. Both models were announced last November as part of the update for the entire two-door C190 GT family, which sees minor changes being introduced to the exterior and revisions to interior equipment.

For the exterior, new items include redesigned LED headlights that now flank the Panamericana grille, and the new unit features a three-chamber reflector system as well as a tri-functional, arched light guide, the latter taking on the function of daytime running light, navigation light and turn signals. The rear LED tail lights have also bee reworked, now enhanced to appear even deeper set, with a darker background for the clusters.

The GT C’s rear apron has also been revised with a new black diffuser insert, and the tailpipe trim now helps differentiate the variants in the GT line-up – while the regular GT is fitted with round units, the GT C (and GT S) feature trapezoidal-shaped outlets.

The equipment list includes 19-inch front and 20-inch rear AMG cross-spoke forged wheels, red-painted brake calipers, an AMG Performance exhaust system and a panoramic sunroof.

Inside, the two-door GT range is now equipped with the 12.3-inch instrument cluster from the GT 4-Door coupe, and this offers an entirely new screen design, with a choice of three AMG-specific display styles, these being Classic, Sporty or Supersport. The last mode offers additional AMG-specific information, including a prompt to shift up in manual transmission mode.

There’s also a new 10.25-inch centre infotainment display, which now presents an improved visual presentation of functions related to driving assistance, vehicle and communication systems, and the the centre console now gets new coloured TFT touch function buttons.

Additionally, the AMG performance steering wheel with Touch Control as seen on the GT 4-Door – and C 63 – makes its way on here as a standard fit item. For the GT C, the steering wheel is finished in a combination of black nappa leather and Dinamica microfibre.

Other interior bits include AMG Performance seats and nappa leather/Dinamica upholstery, AMG matte carbon-fibre trim, an Exclusive trim package, red seat belts, COMAND Online infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support and a Burmester surround sound system.

Elsewhere, an AMG Track Pace data logger is now a standard addition to COMAND Online in all GT models. With it, more than 80 vehicle-specific sets of data are recorded ten times per second, along with lap and sector times so track enthusiasts will be able to analyse their performance on track.

There are no changes to the powertrain and output – on the GT C, the M178 AMG 4.0 litre biturbo engine continues to deliver 550 hp (557 PS) at 5,750 to 6,750 rpm and 680 Nm from 2,100 to 5,500 rpm. Paired with an AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed transaxle dual-clutch transmission, the GT C takes 3.7 seconds to do the 0-100 km/h dash and gets to a 317 km/h top speed.

As before, the AMG Dynamic Select programmes offers a choice of six drive modes (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Race and Individual), but there’s a new AMG Dynamics programme working in tandem with the primary drive modes. The automaker says that the system – which has four different modes (Basic, Advanced, Pro and Master) – better manages the ESP (electronic stability programme) to distribute power and manage steering characteristics.

Like the GT R, safety and driver-assistance kit on the GT C includes Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Parktronic parking assist and front/reverse cameras. The recommended retail price for the Mercedes-AMG GT C is RM1,558,888, on-the-road without insurance.
