Special funds will be made available for Malaysian racer Hafizh Syahrin to campaign in the 2020 Moto2 racing season. This was announced by Youth and Sports minister Syed Saddiq at launching the national sports legend commemorative gold bars by the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) at KBS Gallery.
Funding for Hafizh’s race season with Angel Nieto team will be channeled through Sepang International Circuit, reports The Malay Mail. “I have contacted Datuk Razlan Razali (SIC chief executive officer) and I will ensure Hafizh would be in action in Moto2 even though Petronas did not want to sponsor him,” Saddiq said.
Hafizh had a miserable season this year with KTM Tech3 riding the KTM GP16 coming in at the back of the pack in contrast to his 2018 rookie year riding a Yamaha YZR-M1. Known to fans as “El Pescao” with the tag “Bo55ku, Hafizh will join Spaniard Aron Canet, who moves up from Moto3 after a season with the Sterilgarda Max Racing Team managed by former MotoGP champion Max Biaggi.
