Proton has announced its sales performance results for July, and the company is reporting that it sold 8,590 units last month, improving on its performance in June, in which it shifted 7,615 units. In terms of year-to-date numbers, the brand has sold 52,108 units as of July. Year-on-year, that’s a 46.5% increased over the 35,561 units managed in 2018.

Although official TIV figures from the MAA for the month haven’t been released yet, the national automaker confidently states that those numbers achieved are good enough to propel it into second place in the total sales chart, the first time it is back in that spot after a 40-month gap.

Proton CEO Li Chunrong is confident of the brand holding on to that position by the end of 2019. “Proton’s return to second place overall in the Malaysian automotive market has happened ahead of schedule. The growth in demand for our products show we are on track to meet our long term targets and for the rest of 2019, we intend to consolidate our position to finish the year ranked second for the first time in four years,” he said.

“With the launch of the updated 2019 Proton Saga set to take place shortly and other product introductions in the pipeline, the company is quietly confident of even better results in the future,” he added.

The company also provided some projections about how it was faring market share-wise – it estimates market share for the month to be 16.5% of the total industry volume (TIV), which it says should be around 51,960 units, while its overall market share for the year is expected to be around 15%.
