BMW M8 Gran Coupé to debut in Los Angeles in Nov

Looks like BMW is bringing not one, but two four-door coupés to the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. In addition to the 2 Series Gran Coupé, Munich will also be presenting the M8 Gran Coupé, bringing the full firepower of the M division to a greater audience. The news was buried at the end of a press release celebrating the completion of the company’s extended luxury lineup.

The standard 8 Series Gran Coupé was introduced in June, and the addition of the M8 moniker should entail the same hardware as the two-door Coupé and Convertible models. The design was previewed by a concept last year, with the already gorgeous body decorated by blistered wheel arches, a deeper front bumper with an aggressive front splitter and larger air intakes, fender vents and a massive rear diffuser with quad tailpipes.

The engine should also be carried over from the regular M8 models – an S63 4.4 litre twin-turbocharged V8 that develops 600 hp and 750 Nm of torque, or 625 hp in Competition spec. So equipped, the M8 Coupé rockets to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, so expect a similarly brisk performance from the four-door.

Ditto the chassis, which will almost certainly feature an M xDrive all-wheel drive system, an Active M Differential, bespoke suspension with adaptive dampers, increased bracing and a brake-by-wire system. Also expected is the new Setup button for powertrain, drivetrain and chassis configuration, plus an M Mode button that will turn off the screens and driver assistance systems depending on the drive mode.
