2019 Porsche Macan Turbo – 440 PS, 550 Nm, PSCB

The revised Porsche Macan now adds the top-of-range Turbo to its line-up, bringing increased power and torque despite the use of an engine that is marginally smaller in capacity compared to the unit in what is now the mid-range Macan S variant. Specifically, the top Macan variant employs a 2.9 litre biturbo V6 petrol engine which produces 440 PS from 5,700 rpm to 6,600 rpm and 550 Nm of torque from 1,800 rpm to 5,600 rpm.

These outputs go through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive, and the new Macan Turbo does 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono pack specified; top speed is 270 km/h. The facelifted Macan Turbo weighs 1,945 kg, with combined fuel consumption rated at 9.8 l/100 km on the NEDC test cycle and CO2 emissions at 224 g/km.

These compare to the pre-facelift Macan Turbo’s 400 hp and 550 Nm of torque, which brought a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 266 km/h. This earlier iteration also gained a Performance Package which brought power and torque to 440 hp and 600 Nm, offering 50 Nm more and a 2 km/h higher top speed than this latest standard-series Turbo.

New for the Macan Turbo is the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) setup introduced on the E3 Cayenne, comprised of tungsten-carbide coated discs which offers quicker response, reduced wear and up to 90% less brake dust compared to conventional cast-iron brake discs, according to Porsche. These are identified by white calipers; the PCCB ceramic composite brake setup continues to be optionally available.

As the top Macan variant, the Turbo can be specified with the optional height-adjustable air suspension with optimised rolling pistons and new damper hydraulics, while conventional suspension with switchable damping is standard. Rolling stock for the Macan Turbo is a set of 20-inch wheels as standard, while the exterior gets Turbo-specific front fascia and a double-wing fixed-roof spoiler. The Turbo also gets the sports exhaust system as standard, identifiable by its twin silver tailpipes.

Inside, the facelifted Macan dashboard architecture carries over, with the 10.9-inch touchscreen display housing infotainment functions. Audio comes courtesy of a 14-speaker Bose setup with an output of 665 watts, and options now include a smartphone cradle with inductive charging, available on all variants. For the front row, 18-way electrically adjustable sports seats and Alcantara roof lining are standard.

A new traffic jam assistant with adaptive cruise control is also available, which can accelerate and brake semi-autonomously up to 60 km/h, helping to steer for the driver in slow traffic. The order books have opened for the 2019 Porsche Macan Turbo, priced from £68,530 (RM353,296) in the United Kingdom.
